Transcendental Meditation
TM Community App
TM Community app
The mission of Maharishi Foundation International is to create a more peaceful, harmonious, and enlightened society worldwide through the full development of every individual. Maharishi Foundation works toward this mission includes helping organizations in more than 100 countries benefit from modern technology and globally integrated operations to teach the Transcendental Meditation® technique and related programmes.
The TM technique is widely used by the general public — as well as in governments, businesses, and schools — to develop creativity, good health, success, and fulfillment in life. More than 10 million people worldwide have learned the TM technique over the past 60 years, with organizations including Maharishi International University and David Lynch Foundation bringing TM to people from all walks of life.
The challenge: To add a sense of community within the timer without altering the meditation experience. This could include information like number / visualization of people currently meditating, information about them, messaging, etc. Of course it is key to keep in mind that meditation itself is a focus activity, leaving little space for interaction during the process itself.
The solution: Concept and design several screens in a walkthrough after the meditation is finish where the app user can check progress and interact with other TM Community members.
Tools: Adobe Photoshop and Figma
Branding
With the Transcendental Meditation app I wanted to approach the lead the creative direction and design of the brand look, I jumped at the chance. I explored and researched the relation between Maharishi Yogi and The Beatles (The Fab Four) and how the meditation discovery inspired their music during the 60’s.
The Beatles helped popularize Transcendental Meditation -- described as a simple mental technique that combats stress -- in 1967 when they sought spiritual guidance from an Indian guru, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The Fab Four decided, on the spot, to learn to meditate. They then spent several weeks studying with Maharishi in a retreat in Rishikesh, India.
As with almost anything concerning the legendary band, the Beatles’ connection with TM has become shrouded in rumors, folklore and urban myth. I went to create and design branding and marketing concepts inspired by the TM movement and the famous band.
